1,000 mile weekend

west texas sunsets sure are purdy...
this is the view outside of Charlie's grandparent's lake house in Del Rio.
Charlie and took a little evening stroll after our long day out on lake amistad.
The next morning, we got up bright and early, had some peach pie for breakfast and then
made our heading for college station.
everyone reading this knows our lone star state is quite large and diverse.
we encountered several interesting situations on our said road trip.
the first of which would be border patrol.
charlie decided to pull over onto the side of the road and grab our camera
from the trunk so we could take a quick pic of the patrol officers...
my concerns of our pull over raising eyebrows was well founded
and while they didn't take us out of the car and frisk us, we encountered some thorough questioning.
moving right along after our stint with the junction brothers
we see this large object lying in the middle of the highway...
road kill perhaps?
oh, no.
just a lil 'ol bag of Keystone cans and empty amo shells.
...you know you're in the hill country when...
but non the less, the drive was just as beautiful as we remembered it to be
as we were moving along our merry way, we notice what looked like huge
thunder storm clouds looming ahead of us.
come to find out, those aren't storm clouds,
or the makings of a tornado; which also crossed my mind
{what are we driving into}
it was a huge wildfire
started when a dead tree fell on to power lines
the fire  made several jumps and soon the whole area was
covered in gray smoke.
definitely not something you see everyday.
after several detours, highways closures and reroutes we were able
to make it to aggieland by the second quarter.
the aggies made it all worth while when they pulled out the win against SMU.
PHEW!
border patrols
7 hours of non-stop driving
a wild texas brush fire
and a successful football game
i'll say we've had an eventful labor day weekend

we had a very quick weekend
quick but productive
El Padre de Marco or Papa Luigi
(as Charlie like to call his father)
came in town to lend a helping hand on the downstairs bathroom.
some other projects developed over the course of the weekend
(please excuse the complete lack of make-up here and the nappiness of my mane)
several trips to Home Depot later
we had a new light for the kitchen and a fresh coat of paint
on the ceiling
a few hours and a little paint war later...
...we've got fun track lighting in our kitchen!
Thanks Papa Mark for a wonderful anniversary gift!

To My Amazing Mama...

Happy Mother's Day to My Amazing Mama .
Everyday I thank God for giving me such a loving mother.
You have been such a gentle, patient, giving mother and there aren't enough thank yous in the world to truly get across how thankful I am for having you as my mama.
Thank you for letting me march to the beat of my own drum.
Thank you for supporting me and my dreams.
Thank you for always loving me, even when I went through the really awkward teen years and acted like a brat.
Thank you for always loving me, even though I know I made it difficult.
Thank you for letting me move back home to be your roommates.
Thank you for everything you have done for the world.
Thank you for making me feel like one of the most blessed daughters in the world.
love you with all of my heart,
"Kristin-girl-mama's girl-baby-girl"

A night to remember...

We were busy bees this weekend.
After we drove in from College Station on Saturday
we met up with my mom for the Tyrone Wells concert!
I was so excited to share the night with my mom
because she loves Tyrone's music and the cheery on top
was that his wife, Elina, was going to sing with him too.
The fellar in the above pic is Tyrone's bass player...not Elina thank goodness.
I am so glad to have gotten to spend the evening with some
of my most favorite people in the world!
On our way back to our car we saw this house decked out for
the upcoming holiday.
The fake roaches all over that dude in the sheet were
creeping me out man!

GO 'STROS!

Husband and I kicked off our super busy weekend with our first (and probably last)
baseball game of the year.
My mom got tickets through her school so my sister and her family
got to join in on all the Minute Made Park glory.
Lukie was showing me how he blinks his eyes...he's my favorite 3 year old!
We had a great view of the whole stadium since we were
sitting right under the big screen.
We took a bunch of family pics and this was the best one
Uncle Charlie tucked the State Farm teddy bear into
Lukies shirt...that lasted all of about 3 seconds.
We had a blast with our sweet family even though
the Astros didn't pull out the win.
Charlie remembered the Friday fireworks show they
always have after the Friday games.
The show was about 15 minutes long and a perfect
end to a great night!
